In the shadowy and eerie world of Metaphor: ReFantazio, where grotesque creatures and twisted humans roam, Lina stands out as a charming and endearing competitor. Though her presence brings a sense of warmth and innocence, her ambitions align with the contest’s goal—meaning you’ll eventually have to face her, provided you take on a specific side quest. While it may feel harsh to battle such a sweet character, the fight is short-lived and ends with her surrender through peaceful dialogue.

• Mage Transcendence: Boosts the power of Lina’s next magical attack.

Encountering Lina

Lina does not appear during the main storyline. Instead, she shows up during a side quest. For us, the encounter occurred while traveling toward the Forsaken Tower. After July 23, speak to the Craftsman in the Port of Brilehaven to receive the Superior Scrimshaw quest, which unlocks access to the tower.

As you journey northeast from the Port of Brilehaven, passing through Gracia Forest, you’ll notice a Runner icon on your map. This marks Lina’s location. Upon approaching, she will challenge you immediately, hoping to eliminate you from the competition. Little does she know, she’s picked a fight with someone far more capable.

Boss Fight

Despite being a contender for the throne, Lina is one of the least threatening bosses in the game. While her magic attacks can deal notable damage, her defenses are extremely lacking.

She resists strike and fire damage but is completely vulnerable to ice-based abilities like . Bringing at least one character from the mage archetype is highly recommended. If you have multiple, even better—extra actions per turn will speed up the battle.

Focus on using your strongest damage dealers—such as Strohl’s Warrior skills or the Thief’s darkness-infused attacks—and target her directly. Due to her low durability, she’ll fall quickly, especially with ice spells in your arsenal.

That said, if she manages to act, she’ll likely use Mage Transcendence to amplify her next spell, followed by either Mage Plasma (lightning AoE) or Mage Wildfire (fire AoE). If any party member is weak to these elements, she gains an additional turn and will exploit the other elemental attack.

Otherwise, she poses minimal danger. With ice abilities, you can defeat her in just two turns; without them, a third may be needed. In the end, she’ll concede defeat and resolve the conflict through conversation.
