Season 2 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 brings fresh content to the Zombies mode, headlined by a powerful new Wonder Weapon known as the Ice Staff. This weapon unleashes freezing projectiles to immobilize zombies and even revives fallen teammates, making it essential for survival during intense waves. Players diving into the story of the new map, The Tomb, will find the Ice Staff crucial for progressing through key challenges.
As with other Wonder Weapons in CoD: Black Ops 6, the Ice Staff is exclusive to one map—in this case, The Tomb. This latest Zombies environment features eerie underground crypts, booby-trapped corridors, and ancient ruins beneath an archaeological dig site. Unlocking the Ice Staff requires completing a multi-step quest that unfolds across several rounds of gameplay.

How To Get The Ice Staff
Confront A New Zombie Threat
There’s no direct prompt from the game to guide you toward obtaining the Ice Staff—players must discover and complete a series of cryptic tasks. To begin, you must reach at least Round 8 in The Tomb. While the Ice Staff can occasionally appear in the Mystery Box or via Wonderbar Gobble Gum, these methods are random and don’t guarantee the weapon.
Follow these steps to build the Ice Staff:
- Defeat A Shock Mimic In Round 8 Or Beyond
- Retrieve The Monocle From Its Corpse
- Locate The Purple Crystal In The Neolithic Catacombs
- Use The Crystal To Illuminate Symbols Near The Archer Mural
- Fire At Runes In Sequential Roman Numeral Order (I to X)
- Survive A Lockdown Event & Claim The Head Piece
- Repeat Steps 3–6 At The Bull Mural Location
- Obtain The Final Staff Component
- Enter The Dark Aether Nexus Through Portals
- Insert All Staff Parts Into The Stone Altar
- Endure Lockdown Waves To Forge The Complete Ice Staff
The Shock Mimic is a unique enemy introduced in CoD: Black Ops 6 Season 2. Starting in Round 8, it can spawn in various spots across The Tomb, masquerading as common objects. The most reliable place to encounter it is within the Dark Aether, accessible via the Dark Aether Nexus on the map.
Upon defeating a Shock Mimic, you’ll receive The Monocle, the first component of the staff. Head to the Neolithic Catacombs, where you’ll find a cave mural depicting an archer on the wall—this area is near the Perk-A-Cola machine and Crafting Table.
Season 2 also introduces a new Perk-A-Cola variant: Death Perception. Found in The Tomb, this perk allows you to detect enemies through walls in tight spaces, offering a tactical edge while pursuing the Ice Staff.
At the Archer mural, look up to see a purple crystal suspended in a lantern. Shoot the lantern to reposition the crystal above the Crafting Table. This action reveals a series of wall symbols resembling Roman numerals (I–X).
Shoot each numeral in ascending order (I to X) to form a glowing constellation. This triggers a Lockdown, spawning waves of enemies—including heavily armored zombies. Survive all waves to earn The Head Piece, the second component.
If you fail the Lockdown, don’t panic. As long as your team hasn’t been fully eliminated, you can retry the sequence.
Return to the spawn area and go left to find a second mural—this time depicting a bull. Again, shoot the overhead lantern to move the purple crystal and illuminate a new set of Roman numerals. Repeat the shooting sequence (I to X), survive the resulting Lockdown, and claim the final Staff component.
With all three parts in hand, locate a portal to the Dark Aether. Inside, navigate to a central stone structure marked by towering pillars, floating debris, and a circular altar. Place all three components on the altar to initiate a final, intense Lockdown. Survive the onslaught, and the fully assembled Ice Staff will be yours.
How To Upgrade The Ice Staff
Harness Ice-Based Abilities To Access Hidden Paths
Even after acquiring the Ice Staff, you can further enhance its power through a secondary questline. As zombie waves grow stronger, upgrading the weapon becomes vital for long-term survival. With tools like Pack-A-Punch or Field Upgrades, the process becomes more manageable.
To upgrade the Ice Staff, follow these steps:
- Use The Ice Staff To Shoot All Three Purple Crystals In The Tomb
- Enter The Dark Aether Nexus
- Target Three Glowing Purple Stones Floating In The Sky
- Memorize The Symbols On Each Stone
- Locate The Teleportation Slab In The Tomb
- Shoot The Matching Symbols Seen In The Dark Aether
- Step Into The Activated Teleporter
- Follow The Floating Purple Orb To The Dark Aether Altar
- Claim The Upgraded Ice Staff
Start by using the Ice Staff to hit all three purple crystals scattered around The Tomb—do this in quick succession. You can reposition the crystals with gunfire to align them properly, but ensure you’re using the Ice Staff’s frost projectiles.
Once completed, head to the Dark Aether Nexus. Look up and locate three glowing purple stones floating in the air. Shoot them to bring them within view and note the symbols etched on each. These symbols correspond to those on the teleportation wall.
The layout of the Dark Aether mirrors The Tomb, so the floating stones align with the crystal locations. After Archibald speaks, locate the teleportation wall in the Dark Aether, then find its counterpart in the real world.
On the teleportation slab, use the Ice Staff to shoot the symbols matching those from the floating stones. This activates a glowing portal. Step through it and interact with a purple orb on the other side.
The orb will begin to move—follow it closely, using any weapon to fend off zombies that swarm you. Keep the Ice Staff equipped throughout. As you advance, high-tier zombies will attack, but persist until the orb reaches the Dark Aether Nexus altar—the same location where you forged the original staff.
Once the orb enters the center of the altar, place your Ice Staff on the structure to complete the upgrade.
What The Ice Staff Does
Leverage Upgrades To Freeze Foes And Resurrect Squadmates
The Ice Staff fires icy projectiles that freeze zombies in place, giving you breathing room during hectic fights. It also features a charged secondary ability—an area-of-effect blast that freezes and damages multiple enemies around you. This AoE attack takes time to charge, so use cover or support from teammates to avoid getting overwhelmed.
Once upgraded, the weapon transforms into Ull's Arrow, retaining its core abilities but with increased damage and faster freeze times, even against elite enemies.
The Ice Staff also includes an alternate firing mode called Sekhmet's Vigor. This allows you to instantly revive downed allies by shooting them with a special ice beam. However, you must manually switch to this mode—standard attacks cannot revive players.
Though the quest to unlock and upgrade the Ice Staff is complex, the payoff is immense. It stands as one of the most versatile and powerful weapons in CoD: Black Ops 6 Zombies, and is nearly essential for uncovering all secrets and Easter Eggs in The Tomb.
